Maboneng, meaning ‘Place of Light’, is a privately developed urban neighbourhood on the east side of Johannesburg CBD.

Propertuity developers selected Daffonchio and Associates architects, Gooden & Huff architects, Adjaye Associates architects as well as Greene Consulting Engineers to develop existing dilapidated industrial buildings into retail spaces, restaurants, entertainment venues as well as loft apartments, offices, hotel, a museum and creative factory spaces, in other words a connected urban environment.

WHAT GREENE DID

• We investigated and assessed the existing buildings to determine how the structure can be altered to change the architect’s dream into a reality.
• We ensured that by using innovative, high quality, lightweight structural materials, the capacity of the existing buildings is not exceeded.
• Where new buildings needed to be developed, we provided practical solutions through functional designs.
